5 TIPS FOR MAXIMIZING RESULTS WITH RED LIGHT THERAPY

Tip #1 - Stick To The Guidelines That Come With Your Device
Red light therapy follows what's called a 'dose dependant response'.
What this basically means is that if you are not getting enough red and near infrared light, you won’t be giving your mitochondria the energy that they need to provide the incredible benefits of red light therapy. An increase in dosage, will result in an increase in benefits, up to a certain point.
The tipping point of having a dosage that is too high, results in decrease benefits because the cells become overloaded with light energy. This doesn't mean you'll have negative side effects, rather that you'll just see less of a positive result. Sometimes 'less is more'.
Stick to the guidelines provided with your device to ensure you are getting the best possible results.
Tip #2 - Find A Time Where You'll Be Consistent
In a previous video we discussed what the best time of the day was for red light therapy. As it turns out, timing is less important than being consistent if you want to get the best results.
This means that if it fits into your morning routine, in a consistent way – then that is the best time to use your device. That can also be lunch time, early evening or just before going to sleep at night.

Tip #3 - Be Careful With Cold Showers
Yup, you read that right!
It turns out that cold showers too close to the time of your red light therapy session can decrease the results you see.
While cold showers have extremely beneficial effects, one of the major ways they help you is by increasing the number of mitochondria in your cells.
In contrast, red light therapy is about creating more energy in your already existing mitochondria.
The issue with combining these two treatments at the same time is that it seems mitochondria become less sensitive to light energy when they are cold*.
*we must just take a moment to marvel at how amazing the human body is. Think about what this means: when you experience cold (likely in winter), your cells optimise increasing the number of mitochondria, since there is less light energy (again, what happens in winter).
By combining these two modalities at different times, and allowing your tissues to warm up before your red light therapy session, you'll see incredible results!
Tip #4 - No Products On Your Skin Before Treatment
Having products on your skin can interfere with the way that light reacts with your tissues.
This means that sunscreen, oils, and makeup could decrease the amount of light that reaches your mitochondria.
Ensure that you remove make up, oils and creams before your red light therapy sessions.
Tip #5 - Make Sure Your Device Isn't Causing Harm
There are two ways that cheaper devices can hamper your results:
(1) FLICKER – LED lights can flicker at extremely fast rates that is not perceived by the human eye. But even if we can’t see it, it can cause side effects such as eye-strain or headaches.
(2) Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) – it's important that your red light device does not expose you to any unnecessary radiation, or EMFs. This can cause oxidative stress in your cells, which reduces your body's ability to use light energy effectively.
