What does that word – holistic – mean anyway? Well, it is a way of caring about your body that includes your physical, mental, spiritual, and social needs. It’s about treating the whole you. Let’s find out how we can achieve that on a day-to-day basis..
Holistic health care is an integration of both western and eastern medicine. However, it focuses on wellness and prevention, rather than just treating diseases. It is a far more comprehensive and personalized method of thinking about wellness and health.
It is important to remember that the organs in our bodies don’t function as isolated systems but work in an incredibly intricate way that is interrelated and interdependent. This means that if one area of our bodies, or our lifestyles is causing a negative reaction, this will cause negative responses elsewhere.
For example, if we are going through an incredibly stressful period in life, this psychological response causes inflammation in our bodies which results in physical symptoms such as poor sleep, headaches, muscle pain and weight gain. The same way that being physically ill or injured can result in feelings of anxiety or depression. Our bodies are so finetuned to react to the direct environments around us.
Holistic living is about ensuring that every part of our self and our lives is nurtured, because we know that every part is connected and important. It is about being intentional with your life, both physically, spiritually, and mentally.
