"The number one key to success in life is to master your own state. If you can manage and master your states, there’s nothing you can’t do.”
Success doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from setting your eyes on a goal, and putting in the work to achieve it.
And while it’s great to set your goals high, you can’t achieve them if you aren’t operating from a place of abundant energy and focus.
Your dream physique, job, and relationship can all be yours, but they all depend on your ability to show up with your brain performing at its best.
In today’s post you’ll learn how red light therapy affects your brain, and the ways you can use it to unlock your full potential.
How does light affect your brain?
Red light therapy penetrates much deeper than the surface level. In fact, scientists have determined that a strong enough device can even penetrate through your skull.
This is a great thing, since your brain requires large amounts of energy to function properly, and red light therapy is well equipped to deliver this.
There are two ways in which red light therapy improves your brain function:
1- Increased blood flow
When your brain cells are exposed to red light therapy, they release nitric oxide, which stimulates your blood vessels to dilate.
This causes increased blood flow to the area, which means more nutrients are available for your brain to use.
2- Improved mitochondrial function
The mitochondria in your brain serve to generate energy (ATP) for your brain to function effectively. You can think of the mitochondria like the power plants that provide a city with its electricity.
When your mitochondria are exposed to red light therapy, they increase ATP production, which leads to higher energy availability for your brain.
A study published in the Journal of Neurotrauma found that after just 18 red light therapy sessions to their heads, participants had significant improvements in their brain's executive functions (memory, attention, and focus), as well as their sleep quality.
These findings line up with what our customers say about their MyLights:
"What I am most surprised (& grateful) for is the high quality of sleep I get and the high levels of energy & focus I can maintain throughout the day!” -Chris B, ZA
"My energy levels are stable during the entire day! And when it is time to sleep I am tired and both the body and mind are ready for sleep.” -Patrick V, SWE
A further review in 2021 found that red light therapy is also able to increase new neurons (neurogenesis) and heal trauma injuries within the brain.
