MYTH BUSTING WITH RED LIGHT THERAPY
Sometimes it can be difficult to believe all of the incredible benefits associated with red light therapy.
There is a great deal of misinformation circulating, which could hold you back from trying this life-changing modality.
In this blog you'll learn about some of the common myths surrounding red light therapy, and what results you could expect when you get your own device.
Top 5 myths relating to red light therapy:
- Red light exposure can burn the skin or cause eye damage
- All light therapy is the same
- Collagen production cannot be stimulated through light exposure
- It's easy to overexpose yourself to red light therapy
- It will take months to see positive results from red light exposure
Let's get right into it!
1. Red light exposure can burn the skin or cause eye damage
Red light therapy doesn’t contain any ultraviolet (UV) light, which is associated with tanning.
Red light therapy has, however, been shown to decrease the risk of sunburn later in the day by increasing your skin’s protection (through activation of the melanin in your skin).
Studies have also shown that red and NIR light can be beneficial for eye health, provided you do this responsibly (we don't recommend staring directly into our high powered devices).
2. All light therapy is the same
Each colour of light has a different wavelength, which is associated with different levels of energy.
Different wavelengths of light perform differently in the body as they activate cells in different ways – causing different responses.
Red light therapy focuses on the key frequencies (red and NIR) which are shown to increase energy production within your cells.
NB: Not all red light therapy devices deliver the same results either. Results will depend on the device's:
- - Irradiance (light intensity)
- - Electromagnetic fields (EMFs)
- - Flicker rate

3. Collagen production cannot be stimulated through light exposure
The beauty industry has told us that collagen production can only be enhanced and encouraged through topical creams or ointments.
While some products out there may work, red light therapy actually has a lot more clinical evidence to support its ability to increase collagen production.
Through the increase in collagen production, your skin will appear plumper, tighter, and reduce the appearance of fine line and wrinkles.
4. It's easy to overexpose yourself to red light therapy
Due to the fact that red light therapy doesn’t contain any UV light, there are not the same risks associated with overexposure.
The only concern with 'overdosing' is that you will see less of a positive effect as your cells become overstimulated.
By sticking to the guidelines given to you with your device, you will know that you are getting an effective dose.
5. It will take months to see positive results from red light exposure
Your cells need to balance out energy production with antioxidants.
Initially, some of the increased energy produced will go towards increasing antioxidant production, but over time your body will adapt and benefits will increase.
That doesn't mean that there aren't any benefits at the start. Our customers report better sleep quality and energy levels from the first day!
Other benefits, such as wrinkle reduction, may take 6-8 weeks before noticeable results are seen.
To conclude:
Red light therapy easily comes across as 'too good to be true' until you have tried it for yourself.
Even after considering the scientific research, we want to make red light therapy an absolutely obvious choice for you, which is why all our devices come with a 30-day trial period.
